A Smarter Way to Study - Introducing Ask Pastest

Chris Chris

We've been making some exciting improvements to Pastest, helping you find information, understand difficult topics and make the most of your revision.

At the heart of these improvements is Ask Pastest, our AI-powered study assistant, designed to help you find answers, explore clinical topics and navigate your revision resources simply by asking a question.

And now, we've made Ask Pastest even more useful.

You can now find and review questions you've previously attempted, answered incorrectly, skipped or bookmarked, across all your Qbank and Past Paper sessions.

No more searching through individual sessions to find the questions you want to revisit.

Your Personal Study Assistant

One piece of feedback has come up consistently from our users:

"I know the information exists somewhere... I just can't always find it quickly."

Ask Pastest is available through the sidebar* on our website, giving you a convenient way to access information and navigate your revision resources.

Rather than searching through different sections of the platform, you can simply ask what you want to know.

For example:

  • "What are the causes of atrial fibrillation?"
  • "Explain nephrotic syndrome."
  • "How do I differentiate Crohn's disease from ulcerative colitis?"

Ask Pastest uses AI to understand your question and bring together relevant information from your Pastest revision resources.

Whether you're studying a textbook topic or working through a Qbank session, you can get the help you need without interrupting your revision.

*Please note, for the time being the new sidebar is a web-only feature - it will be available on mobile devices in the coming months.

NEW: Find and Review Questions Across All Your Sessions

One of the biggest improvements to Ask Pastest is the ability to quickly find questions you've previously encountered.

Before this update, reviewing specific questions meant navigating into individual Qbank or Past Paper sessions and searching through the questions within them.

Now, Ask Pastest can bring these questions together in one place, regardless of which session they belong to.

Simply tell Ask Pastest what you'd like to review.

For example:

  • "Show me all questions I have bookmarked" – Quickly find questions you've saved to revisit.
  • "Give me a list of all questions I have got wrong in Cardiology" – Focus your revision on areas where you've previously struggled.
  • "Let me see all the Past Paper questions I've skipped" – Return to questions you didn't answer first time around.
  • "Show me all the questions I've answered incorrectly" – Review your mistakes across multiple sessions.
  • "Show me all the questions I've attempted in Cardiac Failure" – Revisit questions from a particular specialty.

How Does It Work?

When you ask Ask Pastest to find questions, it searches your question history and presents a simple, easy-to-navigate list of matching questions.

From here, you can:

  • View questions matching your request, across different sessions.
  • Identify whether questions were answered correctly, incorrectly or skipped.
  • See which questions you've bookmarked.
  • Filter the results by answer status or bookmarks.
  • Select an individual question to review it.

This means you can spend less time finding questions and more time learning from them.

Top tip: Try asking Ask Pastest to show you the questions you've answered incorrectly in a particular specialty. It's a great way to focus your revision on areas that need the most attention.

Learn with trusted clinical guidance

Ask Pastest doesn't just help you find information – it helps you understand it.

When you ask a clinical question, Ask Pastest can provide explanations using relevant content from your Pastest resources.

Where appropriate, responses also include direct links to NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines.

These links allow you to:

  • Explore the clinical evidence behind recommendations.
  • Read official guidance on diagnosis and management.
  • Understand treatment pathways in greater detail.
  • Build confidence in applying clinical knowledge to exam questions.

Whether you're revising hypertension, asthma, diabetes or acute coronary syndromes, you can move from an AI-generated explanation to relevant clinical guidance in just a click.

Top tip: If you're unsure why a particular treatment is recommended, ask Ask Pastest to explain the reasoning, then explore the linked NICE guidance for further detail.

More Than Just Search

Ask Pastest is designed to be much more than a traditional search tool.

As well as finding previously attempted questions and relevant learning resources, it can help you:

  • Explain difficult concepts in simple language.
  • Break down complex clinical scenarios.
  • Compare similar conditions and diagnoses.
  • Explore topics in greater depth through follow-up questions.
  • Summarise key revision points.
  • Identify areas of your revision that need attention.
  • Find relevant NICE guidelines to support your learning.

Think of Ask Pastest as a study companion that helps you move between learning, practising and reviewing, all in one place.

Accessing Your Insights and Sessions

Alongside Ask Pastest, you'll find your Insights and Sessions within the sidebar.

  • Insights provides information about your performance and revision progress.
  • Sessions allows you to access your previous Qbank and Past Paper sessions.

These features continue to work as before, but Ask Pastest now provides an additional, much quicker way to find specific questions from your revision history.

Built Around How You Study

Our aim with Ask Pastest is simple: to make revision more effective by helping you access the right information at the right time.

Whether you want to understand a clinical concept, check a NICE guideline, identify your weaker specialties or revisit questions you've previously answered incorrectly, Ask Pastest is designed to make that process easier.

We're continuing to improve its capabilities, expand the information it can access and refine the experience based on your feedback.

Please note: Ask Pastest uses artificial intelligence, which means responses may occasionally contain inaccuracies. We recommend checking important clinical information against trusted sources and the relevant guidance.

Ask Pastest is currently available through our website for written exam resources.

Give Ask Pastest a Try!

Next time you're revising, open Ask Pastest and try asking:

"Show me all the questions I've got wrong."

It's one of the easiest ways to revisit your mistakes, identify knowledge gaps and make your next revision session more productive.

We're excited to keep developing Ask Pastest and helping you get even more from your revision.
