What is the “Pastest Pass Mark”?

Ross Noach Ross Noach

The Pastest Pass Mark is our best estimate of the score you should be aiming for on Pastest in order to feel confident going into your exam.

How is the Pass Mark calculated?

Where official pass mark data is available from the Royal Colleges, we use that as the foundation for our calculations.

We then combine this with:

  • Performance data from Pastest users
  • Historical pass/fail outcomes shared with us by customers
  • Overall usage and scoring trends across the platform

Using all of this data together, we generate what we call the Pastest Pass Mark.

Why might it differ from the real exam pass mark?

Exam pass marks can vary between sittings and are not always publicly available. In many cases, Royal Colleges use methods such as standard setting or scaled scoring, meaning there isn’t always a simple fixed percentage that guarantees a pass.

Because of this, the Pastest Pass Mark should be viewed as a guidance benchmark rather than an official cut-off score.

What does this mean for me?

If you are consistently scoring at or above the Pastest Pass Mark, that’s generally a strong indication that you are performing at the level we would expect from candidates likely to pass the real exam.

It is not a guarantee of success. But it is designed to give you a realistic, data-informed target based on the best information available to us.
