Pastest uses a third-party platform - JW Player - to stream its media content. Ocassionally, users cite playback problems which are specific to them and are not experienced by other users. This guide presents a list of common issues and fixes, sourced from the JW Player site.
JW Player playback issues often stem from browser cache conflicts, outdated video encoding, or ad-blocker extensions. To resolve these errors, clear your browser data, disable strict ad-blockers for the website, ensure the video is encoded in widely supported H.264/AAC format, or test in a private tab.
The most common issues and how to fix them include:
1. Error Code 232011 / 224002 (Media could not be loaded)
-
Cause: This happens when the browser or player cannot parse the file format (such as
.wmvor.mov), or when cross-domain credentials for the video manifest are blocked. -
The Fix: Ensure your source video is an
.mp4file encoded with H.264 video and AAC audio. If the video was embedded from an external source, verify you have the proper CORS (Cross-Origin Resource Sharing) permissions set.
2. Video Buffering or Freezing Repeatedly
- Cause: Network bottlenecks, slow internet connections, or large backend metadata (MOOV atoms) that force the player to download large chunks of the file before playing.
- The Fix: Run a quick network speed test to ensure you can support the selected resolution. If you are a site owner/developer, re-encode your videos with the metadata placed at the start of the file using tools like FFmpeg.
3. Audio Plays but Video is Black or Frozen
- Cause: Hardware acceleration issues in your browser or an unsupported video codec.
- The Fix: Try disabling Hardware Acceleration in your browser's settings (found under Settings > System in most modern browsers) and then refreshing the page.
4. Player Gets Stuck on Ads
- Cause: Ad-blockers or ad-load errors (like Error 1001) where ad tags fail to deliver.
- The Fix: Pause your ad-blocker extension or whitelist the site to allow the ad server to communicate with the player.
5. Check for Outages
- Cause: The site you are viewing might be experiencing downtime with its Content Delivery Network (CDN) or the JW Player service itself.
- The Fix: Check the JWX Status Dashboard to see if there are any widespread platform or streaming incidents in your region.
If the above fixes don't resolve your issue, please try accessing Pastest via a VPN in case your network is blocking the content (this can be the case in some regions as our videos are sometimes flagged as 'explicit' due to the amount of skin on show during patient examinations).
